White Wines from Argentina
BACKGROUND
As for Argentinean red wines, the areas in the foothills of the Andes and in particular Mendoza, then as now, have been found to be the most successful region for grape growing. In contrast to the indigenous white grape Torrontes, THE country's white grape, the Viognier has found a welcome home as our ALTO PAMPAS VIOGNIER demonstrates.
The vines planted in Argentina came from Chile in 1556, the making of wine for sacramental use being the predominant incentive.
